A new era of Caselaw

What is PLASTIC?

Plastic, hosted by Byte256 (©️ 2025 Felix Guttmann), is an online database of over 160,000 caselaw examples taken from the CAP project. This database, however, provides several useful features, including a generic search that allows you to use any number of the supported datapoints, or the tagged search.

What is a Smart (Tagged) Search?

The Smart (Tagged) Search option is a tool unique to the PLASTIC Caselaw platform. When a user finds a case that they feel may have an application in certain research situations, they can add tags to the case, meaning that it will appear when searched. The tagged search allows you to search your current situation. This means that rather than looking through hundereds of past legal cases to find something relevant, you can instead put in some keywords describing the situation you are researching for, and it will show you tagged cases that other researchers have said are relevant to your example, saving time.
